Backpack 'Bamboo'

Have you ever seen a backpack made out of 99% bamboo? Here it is! When people think about bamboo they think about a sustainable material being a fast renewable resource They might associate it with kitchen or bathroom asseccories – but bamboo offers so much more! Together with the University of Shanghai we started a design project to explore the wide range of possibilities bamboo offers. So, we visited bamboo factories around Shanghai and teamed up in multicultural teams to create some awesome new products! Our goal was to implement bamboo in Western Design to raise the appreciation of bamboo in the Western but also in the Eastern World. Furthermore we wanted to overcome the depreciation of ‚made in China‘ towards the appreciation ‚designed in China‘. By using 100% bamboo fabric and bamboo applications we created a functional and fashionable everyday product. The backpack brings bamboo into the everyday life of people in the Western but also in the Easter World, linking them with each other. During the collaboration I learned a lot about manufacturing of bamboo but much more I could dive into the experience of working in an international context and handling cultural differences.
